Dirty Snow

Time for some more snow to refresh our landscape and neighborhoods?

Walk in the Neighborhood

The weather has been nice the last few days. It has been SUNNY....we don't care that the temperature is in the 20's and 30's...hey, it's not below zero and there is SUN...lots of SUN. Sun makes us Duluthians feel great. It makes us forget our worries and troubles, it even puts us in the mood for a walk around our neighborhood! I did that this afternoon, and of course I took my camera along...more fun to take photos on sunny days than on overcast days! I am posting a few photos of our neighborhood on Valentine's weekend. Also, a photo of a neighbor who has a new bird house, I'll bet he made it himself. The snowman (two headed?) was built by our neighbors that have 3 girls, who I'm sure put this snowman together.

One complaint that I've been hearing, and I agree, but don't want to agree too loudly in case Mother nature dumps a large storm on us, is that our snow is getting awfully dirty and not very nice looking. It's time, many say, for some snow so that things can "look pretty again". So, witness the photo I posted above with the headline "Dirty snow".

Happy Valentine's Day

Friday I came home from work and standing at the door was my husband with a beautiful bouquet of long stemmed red roses! “Happy Valentine’s Day” he told me. I said Valentine’s is tomorrow. “I know, but your work week was extra hectic this week, so I thought you deserved them tonight!” Wasn’t that thoughtful of him! I have a wonderful husband, who I appreciate not just on Valentine’s Day, but everyday! I love you Bob!

Valentine's Week/Abraham/Remembering Mother

This past week I had so many things on my mind. On Monday, I was excited because I actually remembered a holiday ahead of time, and over the weekend I had bought my valentine cards. I always send our 8 year old Granddaughter in Hudson, some sort of Valentine treat, candy, etc. This year I bought her valentine socks with red hearts on them, a red hearts barrette for her hair, valentine stickers, and valentine candy. Feeling in a generous mood, I decided that this year I would send something along for her Mother and Father also. I had fun shopping for those things. Then I also bought something to send to our Grandson and his friend. Then I bought cards for our sons, and mailed the one to the son we hardly ever see, and put in a “treat” for him and Sarah also. The mood carried through the week. I kept a bag of dark chocolate raspberry kisses in the car, and as I drove through the parking ramp at the end of each day, I gave a handful to the attendant. I took chocolate treats to work for my co workers, and when I went through McDonald’s to buy a salad at lunch, I gave candy to both the cashier and the person who gave me my order. The cashier at McDonald’s told me that I “made her week”, when I gave her the candy.

I also was thinking of my Mother, whose birthday I never forget, she was born on the same day as Abraham Lincoln, Feb. 12. She has been gone from us for 4 years now, and it has been a long 4 years. She would have been 84 on Thursday. My brother, Jerry who we lost in 2003, his birthday is coming up on the 25th of this month, the same day that my cousin from Arizona turns 60.

Work has been hectic, but all these thoughts helped me to get through a hard week. It was good to be thinking of others this past week, it sure did make my week go better. The next few weeks will be hard also, guess I will have to think of “random acts of kindnesses” to do for others to get me through them!

Bumped ...

If you watched the TODAY show on Friday to see Laurence's interview, you probably thought I was crazy. Nancy wrote me Friday afternoon that at the last minute the interview was postponed, it is now supposed to be some "undecided date yet, in March". Hopefully, there was other good stuff on the show for you to see. Perhaps something more important on the national news front bumped the interview. Maybe it was the reporting on the vote for Obama's Stimulus Package.

Friend Being Interviewed on the TODAY Show on Fri.

My girlfriend from school days sent me this message today:

"My husband is scheduled for a live interview on the Today show this Friday about his latest book, Jobs in the President's Stimulus Plan. I think the time will be sometime between 8--9 a.m. "

Her husband, Laurence is an author. His last book was titled "Recession Proof Jobs", and he was interviewed on CNN for that book. Now his new book is "Jobs in the President's Stimulus Plan", and he is being interviewed on NBC's The Today Show...wow! Way to go Laurence.

This Friday, Feb. 13th, Set your VCR's if you won't be home, if you are home...tune in to see him.

How exciting to see someone on the TODAY show that I know!
