You're Gonna Miss This
We spent the weekend with our daughter and her family in Hudson, WI. She was excited because we went down for "no reason," as we put it "just because we wanted to"... so midweek she called and said since Mother's Day was next weekend, we would celebrate Mother's Day while we were there. Her husband (who does most of the cooking) made a most delicious meal on Saturday night in honor of us Mothers.
Our Grandson, who graduates from high school in a few short weeks, was talking about moving out when school was over, with his friends, and how excited he was about it. He talked about his plans for the summer, etc.
I am not a country music fan, although sometimes a country song will come out that strikes me, and I happened to hear one a month or so ago that I really liked. The singer was on Celebrity Apprentice, and I really felt he was a man of real character, and grew fond of him over the time he was on the show, so I bought one of his CD's. (Trace Adkins). I thought of his song "You're Gonna Miss This" when I heard Skylar talking, and thought back to how I felt when I moved away from home, and learned very quickly that I did miss those years...and how we need to move through life slow, so that we "don't miss" the good times.
I also read something about two weeks ago that ended with this phrase: "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to hit you with a brick to get your attention". I liked it so much, I added it to my e mail stationary on my work e mail!
You’re Gonna Miss This
(Lee Thomas Miller/Ashley Gorley)
She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaining, saying I can’t wait to turn 18
she said I’ll make my own money
And I’ll Make my own rules
Mama put the car in park out there in front of the school
And she kissed her head and said I was just like you
Chorus:
You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days
Hadn’t gone by so fast.
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this
Before she knows it she’s a brand new bride
In her one-bedroom apartment and her daddy stops by
He tells her it’s a nice place, she says it’ll do for now
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
And Daddy shakes his head and says baby just slow down
Cause… (Repeat chorus)
Five years later there’s a plumber working on the water heater
dogs barking, phone’s ringing, one kid’s crying, one kid’s screaming
And she keeps apologizing: he says they don’t bother me
I got two babies of my own, one’s thirty-six, one’s twenty-three
It’s hard to believe
but ... (Repeat Chorus)
You’re gonna miss this
Yeah you’re gonna miss this
