Snow Plow!

Surprise! The snow plow just came on our street. We didn't expect it until late tonight or tomorrow. It is still snowing, but not as fiercely as it was, and the winds died down a few hours ago. Things are much calmer. The city plows must be able to keep up with the snow emergency routes, and are now starting to get to our residential streets. We applaud all the hard working snow blow drivers and those on the graders and sanders. We appreciate all they do for us. I heard there were 60 city employees working hard since 3 am to get our main drags open. Until now, only snowmobiles could get through our street. We've seen a lot of snowmobilers, they've just been waiting for this snow fall so they could go out and "play". Those in Duluth that love the outdoor sports like snowmobiling, skiing, snow shoeing, etc. are really having a ball today. I'm sure the kids are too. It's nice that the temperatures are not so bad, and now that the wind has calmed down, it's the perfect playland for them. Usually after a blizzard or big snow storm, our temperatures drop very low, and wind chills become dangerous. I know we got wind chills with the wind gusts, but nothing like I remember us getting in past years. That's what makes it nice for this weekend, mild temperatures, people that want to play in the snow will be able to.

The weather man is on right TV now and so far we have 18.4 inches of snow, but as he said "it's still snowing". Park Point is still closed, the crews are trying to get their streets dug out, they can't find the cars, so it's hard. They report that people are walking there to see the "sights", so the city is asking them to wait until the streets are open there.

Bob and Rob are out there right now cleaning up the snow that the plow put in front of our driveway, and doing some more cleaning up. This is the third time they have been out. I have to admit I haven't been out. I'm cooking supper while they are working. Rob did not have to go into work, as they closed down today, as did most business and services. Bob was sure glad to have his help.

Our next door neighbors, who are spending the winter in FLA, called us this afternoon to ask us to check the air vent for their furnace, to be sure it wasn't blocked. It is 70 degrees there today. She said it's been cooler than usual. She also told us that they have to worry about tornados there, and in the town they live in they do not have tornado sirens to warn them! That's scary. I told her I'd rather deal with a blizzard than a tornado!

I hear that the first planes will get into the airport tonight at 10 pm, since Wednesday afternoon. So, my co/worker who has been stuck in Minneapolis, should get home tonight to her husband and two young children.
