Rose Garden and Leif Erickson Park

Yesterday morning I went to the Rose Garden and Leif Erickson Park for my morning walk. It was beautiful, and the temperature was just right. The sun started heating up and by the time I left it was warmer than I like….but hey, I got the best of the day! There were quite a few people down there with me; I’m sure most of them tourists for the holiday weekend, enjoying our town. I usually end up in conversation with one or two tourists on my visits there. I always enjoy visiting with our guests. Yesterday I was taking photos of the peony garden that is in bloom, beautiful large white and pink blooms. There was another woman doing the same, and she commented to me that she’s never seen such beautiful, showy peonies. I asked her if she was from Duluth, and she told me she was here on her annual visit. She lives in Boston but grew up here. She was here to see her family and enjoy the city, she reminded me of myself when I go back to SE Pennsylvania to see my family and enjoy my hometown area.

It’s funny that those that grow up somewhere and stay here, rarely appreciate fully their home town, as those of us that have left it. Is that human nature, us taking things for granted? She and I had a nice conversation talking about Duluth and her home now, Boston. She doesn't miss the winters though, and asked me how we manage them. I told her that we learn to handle it, and that we enjoy the beauty the snow gives us. I also told her that we live here for the days we have been having this past week! The "Perfect Duluth Days!" That's why we put up with winter!

We had fun taking photos of an ore boat that was coming through the Aerial Lift Bridge. It was a great morning, visiting with someone who loves Duluth as I do (and her name was Linda too!), and enjoying the beauty of the park and the lake. Of course, I am going to post some of those photos, for you to enjoy and to entice you out of town readers to come to Duluth, and all of the Duluth natives to get out and enjoy what we have right here in Duluth!
